Dan Houser says he failed with Max Payne 3: "I got that completely wrong"

The Rockstar co-founder looks back in IGN at the reception of the 2012 game.

In an IGN interview picked up by Kotaku, Dan Houser, Rockstar's former vice president and lead writer, says he thought he had made "a really cool digital noir experience", but the consensus at the time was negative, so he got it completely wrong. He adds "I failed" and that his part of the game was not a success.

Houser thinks many people missed the writing of Sam Lake, who wrote the first two games, developed by Remedy. Max Payne 3, from 2012, was developed entirely by Rockstar and moved the series to Brazil. Kotaku says it sold less than other Rockstar titles, without giving figures. PC Gamer, however, disagrees and argues Houser is wrong to judge it that way. Remedy is now remaking the first two games, published by Rockstar.
