Xbox introduced Xbox Labs on October 13 through a message from Asha Sharma sent to all staff and published on Xbox Wire. She describes it as a small team of game makers, engineers and scientists meant to make games easier to access, give older titles new life and help more players become creators. It will work "in the open" and share the tools it builds with the wider industry.
The post points to recent projects that put games on hardware they were not designed for, such as PC builds translated to Apple Silicon or games running in a browser. VGC ties it to the surge of AI-assisted mods and ports, and Kotaku reads it as a big announcement about AI. Sharma stresses that Xbox's current priorities, including games, hardware and stewardship of its franchises, are unchanged. No headcount, budget or specific products were given.
