Sharma: Xbox won't survive by relying only on past franchises

Xbox's CEO told staff the company must keep creating new IP, amid scrutiny over layoffs.

Asha Sharma spoke at an internal Microsoft town hall last week, according to Windows Central, as relayed by Pure Xbox. She said Xbox will keep backing its strongest franchises, aiming to make them "global billion-dollar franchises", but also wants to see the company create "enduring new IP" that reaches new audiences.

The same report says she discussed growing King and casual games and "simplifying" the studio structure, following recent moves that placed several first-party teams under the Activision and Bethesda banners. Pure Xbox notes the comments sit awkwardly beside recent studio closures and job cuts, and many readers were skeptical.
