Circana's monthly report, shared by analyst Mat Piscatella, paints a weak August in the United States: 559,000 consoles were sold, down 15% year on year and the lowest August figure since 2013. PlayStation units fell 11% and Xbox units 31%, while total market spending dropped 9% to $4.3 billion.

Switch 2 was the best-selling console by units, though also below 2025, while PS5 dollar sales rose 17% despite fewer machines sold. On the software side NBA 2K27 came top — it is already the year's third best-seller — ahead of Madden NFL 27 and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Another eye-catching figure: spending on Switch 2 Game-Key Cards is up 631%.
