Gears of War: E-Day starts with modest estimated sales, but Game Pass muddies the picture
An Alinea Analytics analyst estimates around 230,000 copies sold in week one; Kotaku and IGN differ on the headline figure.

According to Alinea Analytics data shared by analyst Rhys Elliott on October 9, Gears of War: E-Day sold roughly 230,000 copies in its first week. Kotaku's headline says 320,000, but the breakdown it gives (about 168,000 on Steam and about 62,000 on Xbox, console and PC) adds up to 230,000, the figure IGN uses. Microsoft has not confirmed any numbers.
The estimate leaves out Game Pass players: Elliott puts that route at around 1.7 million players, of whom roughly 722,000 reportedly paid $30 for the Premium Edition for early access. He estimates about $37 million in revenue and argues the service cannibalises sales without clearly bringing in new subscribers. GameSpot notes there are more factors at play than raw sales.
This is third-party analysis and should be read with caution. Critical reception has so far been strong: 3DJuegos gives it its "Recomendado" badge and calls it one of the year's best.
