EA is preparing a Wing Commander 3 remaster from the original video tapes
Producer Jim Vessella previewed it at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo; no platforms or date yet.
Jim Vessella, a longtime EA producer, announced a remastered edition of Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger for its 30th anniversary during a panel at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo. Per Kotaku, it draws on master tapes of the live-action sequences found in the company's archives; the event's account cites over 600 source tapes.
Vessella spoke of less video compression, 60 fps and community enhancements, and the "Kilrathi Saga" came up, which Kotaku reads as a possible nod to the original trilogy. This comes from a panel, not a press release, and no platforms, price or date were given.
